Mac Updates 2008-12-22, part 2.

Here are additional updates that were deployed:
  • Thunderbird is now at version 2.0.0.18.
  • Vienna is now at version 2.3.1.
  • VLC is now at version 0.9.8.
  • XCode is now at version 3.1.2.

Mac Updates 2008-12-22, part 1.

We’ve made the following changes to our Mac environment:
  • AIM 1.0 is now installed.
  • Audacity is now at version 1.3.6.
  • Blender is now at version 2.48.
  • Firefox is now at version 3.0.5.
  • The Google Earth API Plugin is now installed.
  • The Google Gears plugin is now installed.
  • Handbrake 0.9.3 is now installed.
  • iTunes is now at version 8.0.2.
  • Microsoft Office 2004 is now at version 11.5.3.
  • Microsoft Office 2008 is now at version 12.1.5.
  • Maple is now at version 12.
  • The Move Networks player (streaming video for ABC, etc.) is now installed.
  • NeoOffice is now at version 2.2.5 Patch 5.
  • The Microsoft Open XML Converter is now at version 1.0.2.
  • OpenAFS is now at version 1.4.8
  • OpenOffice 3.0 is now installed.
  • Opera is now at version 9.63.
  • Perian is now at version 1.1.3.
  • Safari is now at version 3.2.1.
  • SketchUp is now at version 7.
  • Songbird 1.0 is now installed.

Additionally, our Macs have been updated to Mac OS X 10.5.6 and the QuickTime H.264 Compatibility Update has been installed.

Signage Content Player Deployed to Angell Hall and Angell Hall Classrooms

A digital signage content player application has been deployed to the Angell Hall and Angell Hall Classrooms. The software will be used for a test of emergency messaging capabilities for digital signs.

Changes to MDT and Windows updates

I have made the following changes to our production environment.

* Deployed the out of band update for IE 7 site wide.

* Added the most recent Windows updates to MDT for both our capture and
build process.

* Created a new task sequence for testing the Windows software on MDT.

Changes to Angell Hall PC's for Digital Signage Test

The following changes were made to Angell Hall and Angell Hall Classroom PC’s to support a test of digital signage software:

 

1. Authenticated Users are granted the “Access this computer from the network” permission.

 

2. The account UMROOT\ccs-signage is added to the BUILTIN\Power Users group

 

3. The group UMROOT\ccs-signage is granted Full Control to the %ProgramFiles%\Signage and the %ProgramFiles%\SignageSettings directories.

 

4. The inactivity timeout to turn off the display is changed from 20 minutes to  90 minutes.

 

5. The %ProgramFiles%\Signage directory is shared with the share name Signage.

 

6. The autologout screensaver timeout is changed from 20 minutes to 90 minutes.

Directories Created on PC's at AHA, AHA Classroom, and Union for Digital Signage Test

The following directories were created on Windows systems in Angell Hall, Angell Hall Classroom, and the Union:

 

C:\Program Files\Signage

C:\Program Files\SignageSettings

 

These directories are required for the Four Winds Interactive Content Player digital signage client. The directories are created by the ccs-digital-signage-directories GPO.

ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2 deployed to SNRE (Dana)

Erdas Imagine 9.2 and the Leica components associated with it have been
deployed to the site and classroom at SNRE (Dana).

VLC mp4 file association removed

Per the request of Jason Engling I have removed this file association. I
did this on the softgrid servers. The mp4 file association should now
default to Quicktime.

Chem Bio Office License Update

I have received and deployed new Chem Bio Licensing to Sites Windows
machines. The new license will take effect on each machine on its next
reboot.
